Gift of Love

I knew she was there even before I looked up. Her presence always fills the room. Looking toward where I knew she was standing, our eyes locked. A smile slowly curls her lips as she begins to walk toward me. I watch her, unable to look away. She stops in front of me, so close we almost touch, and stares deeply into my eyes. Without a word, she wraps her arm around my neck pulling me closer. With her chin on my shoulder, she rests her cheek against mine. I feel the softness of her skin and the warmth of her breath. Her hand gently touches my face. I wrap both my arms around her holding her in a loving embrace. I can feel the love flow between us and I am happy. She raises her head, again looking deeply into my eyes, and says “I love you Grandpa.” Then hugs me even tighter. Even though words cannot describe how much I love her, I settle for “I love you too.” Then I sit quietly enjoying the gift of a child’s unconditional love.
